Some Genetic Counselors work in a clinical role, which means they work directly with patients, often as part of a healthcare team. The two main work settings that these Genetic Counselors work in are hospitals and doctor's offices.

Genetic Counselors are trained to work in many different specialties, including:

Prenatal: working with pregnant women

Pediatric: working with children

Cancer: working with families affected by cancer

Cardiology: working with families affected by heart conditions

General Adult: working with adults

Genetic Counselors may choose to work in one specialty or more than one specialty.
